
Most importantly, If your program is not listed, VA benefits will not cover costs of your program. They must be pursued concurrently with a bachelor’s degree. If you are using VA benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606), contact a residency counselor at the Office of Admissions.

You will receive the in-state tuition rate once you provide a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), Statement of Benefits, CH 31 VR-67 Positive Plan Development Letter or e-Authorization to the Office of the Registrar. You are eligible for an exemption from non-resident tuition at UH Mānoa when using VA benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Veteran Readiness & Employment (Chapter 31), Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 35), and the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship. If you are using educational assistance under the CH 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) program, provide a copy of your VR-67 Positive Plan Development Letter or e-Authorization the Office of the Registrar. If you have not yet received a COE from the VA, but would like to start your benefits, you may provide a Statement of Benefits from eBenefits. You must provide a copy of your COE to the Office of the Registrar. If the VA approves your application, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), or award letter, in the mail.

If you have received VA education benefits from another school, and will transfer to UH Mānoa, visit VA.gov to apply for a Change of Program or Place of Training and to update your current benefits. It takes the VA approximately 30 days to make a decision and process your education claim. If you have never received VA education benefits and have not yet applied for education benefits with the Department of Veterans Affairs, visit VA.gov to apply. If you have previous transcripts from another institution and a military transcript, we encourage you to request them to be sent to UH Mānoa when you apply.
